Frequently Asked Questions

What does CEETI stand for?
CEETI is the Center for Energy, Environment, and Transportation Innovation.

Why was CEETI formed?
CEETI was formed to accelerate innovations integrating energy, environment, and transportation.

When was CEETI formed?
CEETI was formed as one of the Crisman Institute (http://pumpjack.tamu.edu/homepage/Research/Crisman/) research centers in January, 2005.

Where does funding for CEETI come from?
As a Crisman Institute research center, CEETI gets funding from Crisman Institute members, CEETI members, philanthropic foundations, government agencies, and those funding CEETI projects directly. For more information, please visit the Crisman Institute website at http://pumpjack.tamu.edu/homepage/Research/Crisman/.

How is CEETI governed/organized?
The Crisman Institute is governed by its Director, Dr. Stephen A. Holditch , and the Crisman Institute Board. Each Crisman Institute center has a center director. The director of CEETI is Dr. Christine Ehlig-Economides.

What is the cost to join CEETI?
Current funding levels for the Crisman Institute are indicated on the Crisman website. Individuals can participate and contribute to the workshops and technology roadmaps without formally sponsoring CEETI research.

What is the CEETI Roadmap?
The CEETI focus is on transforming transportation in order to diversify transportation fuels, reduce roadway congestion, reduce vehicle emissions, and improve safety. Modeled after the open source strategy popularized by Linux, the CEETI Roadmap ( link) is an innovation project intended to enable a wide range of participation in mapping the transition from our current transportation infrastructure to one that is sustainable in the long term. This is a challenge since the open source strategy is rarely applied to development in a capital intensive industry.

What leadership opportunities are available to CEETI members?
The CEETI Roadmap is a huge undertaking integrating many skills and disciplines. Technical, economic, and policy inputs will be needed in this effort. The CEETI Roadmap Director will manage technical subgroups lead by representatives of CEETI member companies. Subgroup members must represent a CEETI member company, an affiliate of a CEETI member company directly involved with the technology, or a CEETI employee, or they may participate in a subgroup as an individual with no employer recognition.

Can other organizations join CEETI?
This mechanism is possible and encouraged. Commercial companies should consult the requirements for joining the Crisman Institute. Universities and government agencies should contact Professor Christine Ehlig-Economides (cee@symet.net) for more information.

What research capabilities can CEETI access?
CEETI is located at Texas A&M University where a number of faculty are interested in performing research in support of technical, economic, and policy challenges identified by the CEETI Roadmap. In addition, CEETI is working to build relationships with other universities who will provide additional researchers and with commercial enterprises interested to collaborate. Our initiative is national and arguably even global in scope, and we welcome collaborators with aligned interests.

How will CEETI handle Intellectual Property?
The IP policies for the Crisman Institute are provided on request.

How does my company become a collaborating partner?

A company can join CEETI (link) to fund specific research projects or to support the overall CEETI Roadmap effort. A company can also provide input to the CEETI Roadmap by enabling employees to participate as CEETI Platoon members.

I have data or documents or a website CEETI can link to. Who should I contact?
The CEETI webmaster is Jim Longbottom, who is also Director of the CEETI Roadmap (jlongbottom@tamu.edu). Individuals, entrepreneurs, and concerned citizens are able to contribute data ,documents and ideas to CEETI directly and to participate in dialogs/workshops concerning various aspects of the evolving roadmap. They can also offer contributions to the CEETI Roadmap that will be reviewed by the CEETI Roadmap Technical Subgroups that decide, along with the CEETI Roadmap Director, what contributions become part of the published roadmap.

Does CEETI have research funds to support outside complimentary research to the CEETI Roadmap?
After demonstrating its merit, CEETI hopes to become an international leader in development of a next generation transportation infrastructure. In time, the expectation is that funds will become available to sponsor a number of research projects at various collaborating institutions and commercial enterprises.
